Z pronounciation - A2

You probably noticed that the Brits pronounce the letter Z as /zed/, but how is it that the Americans say /zi:/ (= zee) instead?

Hard to understand ; so imagine the level of comprehension of the subject as far as I'm concerned ... Degree zero or nearly :) I knew how to pronounce, and now I don't anymore
